On my recent trip to Westfield Stratford City Shopping Mall (a stone throw away from the Olympic Park), I immediately noticed how busy it has become.
There was so many people. Huge crowds. But these weren’t just your regular shoppers. These were journalists, tourists and…athletes.
Yep. the Olympics is finally here.
With every passing minute, I’m getting more excited especially as a Sports fan and at the time of writing, it’s only 10 hours until the opening ceremony.
It’s been 7 years since London was awarded the Games. I still remember the day when it was announced London would be host. Since then, I never really gave it much thought. “It still ages away” I would say. But now its finally here, it feels like it’s just crept up – where did the 7 years go?! 7 years of anticipation and people talking about it and getting used to seeing the London 2012 logo everywhere. To me, it will be strange, when it’s all over. As a Londoner, I like the thought of the world’s attention on London.
Like most sporting events, tickets are hard to come buy. I applied for quite a few events but didn’t manage to get most of them. Sad face. What I did get was Boxing which, though I’m not that into Boxing, I’m still excited to sample the atmosphere and maybe take a liking into the sport. It’s still an Olympic event. How often will I get an opportunity like this? The glam events are of course the track events notably the 100m, 200m and relay races. I would have looked to get the gymnastics event.
My family’s have been based in East London ever since they arrived in the UK. It’s not the glamorous side of London and rarely do you see tourists hanging around these parts. But now that the amazing development around Stratford is all finished, it looks absolutely amazing. It’s awesome to have been around Stratford seeing it’s Olympic development from start to finish. Looking around now, London and Stratford is ready to showcase one of the greatest, if not, the greatest show on earth.
Besides the sports and athletics on show and on a personal level, I hope to meet loads of people from from around the world. Like I said, it’s not your glamorous side of London and rarely do you see tourists hanging in these parts. But with Stratford’s Olympic makeover completed, I’m sure I’ll be seeing a whole lot more visitors round here.
It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. I might never get this close to an event on a global scale such as this and I intend to enjoy it as much as I can =)
Excited about the Olympics? Which event(s) are you most looking forward to? Let me know!
Enjoy the Olympics!
